About Us

A long time ago our founder Steve Oakley started out life with a degree in computer science. Back then it was 68000 assembly code on an Atari ST / TOS, Pascal, C+. Things worked out differently than expected and he got into work as a photo assistant, commercial photographer and eventually video. It was the start of a long career both as a DP and editor. Back then it was 16mm and BetaSP. When computers got fast enough to edit video, he got into that buying a Media100 NLE. This led to working with the developers of those NLE’s like Media100, Adobe Premiere before it was pro, Avid, BorisFX, Apple Final Cut and Discreet / Autodesk. This was typically as a beta tester, but sometimes as a paid consultant, or doing product demos at shows including NAB, SIGGRAPH and DVexpo.

He also kept busy going back into production work after taking most of a decade off from that work. The jump into network TV productions, commercials, docs and corporate work was quite busy for many years. A recent doc project he worked on involved shooting a lot of timelapse sequences, day and night, in the SouthWest of UT and AZ. Not being able to preview shots quickly, tedious manual sorting of files into individual folders all seemed a ridiculous way to work.  That planted the seed that maybe it was time to go back to his roots in programming. Combing all the years of experience in software QA, UI and UX,  he decided to get back into software. It was time to address the need of a tool no one made that worked very well. That led to TimeLapse Forge, and its spin off projects to be released soon. Sometimes you just have to fix the problems yourself !
